The Khaki Scouts

Consider this a "soft introduction" to my new musical project. I've only made a very rudimentary outline in my head of where this musical project will go. Right now I'm putting together a few demos and getting myself back into the swing of things.

Even though nothing has been "polished", I still wanted to share what I'm currently working on to keep everyone in the loop.

I like the name "The Khaki Scouts". Anyone seen Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom"? Excellent movie. I'm sure this band name has already been taken in Australia or somewhere. Oh well.

Once Nick sets up his home studio, we'll pull out the big guns and do this the right way, but for now, a demo really isn't a "wrong" way, right?

Please fill free to download a free version of this demo:

A Million:

F am Bb C

Do you know how long I've dreamed and schemed
All those sleepless nights how hopeless it all seemed
There were times when I could almost taste the future
years ahead where I would be someday

dm Bb F C

And I was scared and you were there to tell me "Don't you dare stop trying"
You held my face the words escaped "You'll be o.k.  I'd never  lie to you

F Bb gm C
Don't sell my dreams
There are some things money can buy
But it can't buy everything

I won't change my mind
Go ahead and name your price
Give me a million a trillion
And I'll wave it good by
Bb F gm C

Oh

F am Bb F second time C
I admit sometimes the other side tempted me to try to understand
But all it took was just one step outside the way I've always thought, the way I've always planned
dm Bb F C
The truth is there's no other way. I have no choice, but the one I've made.
Sometimes there's pain. Sometimes trouble
I can't help loving what I do each day

  2. meg, this is very lovely.

I have to admit I was actually feeling rather emotional all day and when I heard your song, it just brought me to tears. I didn't need to read the lyrics but the melody just said it all.

thank you so much for sharing your songs and I really look forward to more (:

    1. The final track listing hasn't been decided yet, but I'm thinking that that song as well as "Weeding Through The Rubble" will make the cut.

  9. Yay Meg!!! New music and I love the name. I'll admit I'm a bit bummed that it might mean that there will be no Cocoon tour but I will be forever hopeful. In the meantime I will patiently wait until I can buy the EP :)

    1. Sorry no Cocoon tour. I'm sad about that too, but alas, sometimes the trajectory in life changes and you've just gotta go with the flow. A wise woman told me that recently.

  13. A very nice song—it’s great to see that there are some people making heartfelt, intelligent, mature music. I hope your new musical project finds success, Meg, however you want to define success, as the song expresses.

(FYI, the link for the download is broken—it’s pointing to “http://HERE./”. I had to copy and paste the text of the link to get to the download page. I’m glad I did, though. :-) )

    1. Ugh, I hate when technology fails me. Ha ha. Well, hopefully everyone else finds there way too. I define success by writing the best within me and sharing the result with people no matter the outcome. Just doing it is success!

  18. Missed the free download, but gladly paid for my copy of it. Like it a lot Meg!

It's inspired by Parenthood right? I think I may know which episode... :) The indie-folk feel of this track would actually fit really well with the show's soundtrack *cough* makeithappen *cough*

I actually also thought Jade put in some vocals as well... you guys kind of sound alike!

  19. Great Song! I love the spirit in this song and the spirit in the song writer. I hope that others take your inspiration and keep on doing what they love everyday. Following dreams is hard and money can be a tempting prison, "But it can't buy everything" as you so well put it. I am so glad that you just can't stop doing what you love in your own way everyday! We all benefit from your gifts! Thank you.
I need me some Khaki Scouts Merch now for continued inspiration.

  21. I just bought the song and I'm happy I did. This is fantastic, Meg. There is an awesome feel to this song; the lyrics , the mood etc.

It always amazes me how a work of art can change the way you feel and make you reflect on life. I've listened to the song at least ten times now and I'm feeling very inspired. Thank you!

I think some fiddle (yes, I said fiddle) and banjo would sound great with this song, just sayin'. ;)

I'll be waiting to see what's next!

  24. Meg! The demo is simpy beautiful! Now I need to see Moonrise Kingdom. I seriously cannot wait for the rest of your stuff, It's very moving and inspiring. It's just what I needed too! The other day I was driving home from Tucson on the highway. I decided to play Fighting for Nothing really laud, and ..I couldn't even sing it because I was crying. My friends and I used to sing it at the top of our lungs, and now, we aren't friends. But Your new stuff is giving me hope to move on and I'm anticipating more great music from you!
