am G C
As I stand here now
Look into my eyes
am G F
Asked myself a thousand times
Lady why'd you try?
am G C
Not so long agoChange my name each night
am G F
Play a different character
Fool them every time
F G C
I'd fool them every time
C
I want my spirit back
F
where did that woman go?
G C
She ran so far, so wide, to where the great wind blows
am
She always reached for higher
F
When fate grabbed from below
C
I wish she'd show up
G
I wish she'd show up
C
I wish she'd show
am G C
Life crashes in waves
and I say "Hey, I need a break"
am G F
I wave my arms and kick my legs
but I go under anyway.
am G C
Where does that leave me now
my clothes tossed in a pile
am G F
I've got some songs and my guitar
And that'll last me for awhile
Yeah that 'll last me for awhile

Masquerade
ReplyDeleteI think this title is appropriate because at Mardi Gras people put on Masquerade masks to cover themselves, their true identity. If the woman in the song is not there, she has to have a cover, a Masquerade!
DeleteFool Them
ReplyDeleteD'awww... I always love your music Meg. My favorite songwriter no doubt.
ReplyDeleteI like "Drift" or "Drifting" or something along those lines.
Reminiscent Reverie, Come back to me.
ReplyDelete(All one title)
dandelion heart! Reminds me of a dandelion getting blown away by wind and the way it changes from all yellow and pretty to the things you blow and make wishes of
ReplyDelete"That Me"
ReplyDeleteSpirit
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I'd say "Intermission" or "the great wind" :)
"Foolish Wisdom" or "Fool's Wisdom"
ReplyDeleteLove the demo. :)
"Where the Great Wind Blows" =]
ReplyDeleteRight out of the song, I like this one! Very fitting.
DeleteThis is probably my favourite. I love it!
DeleteWow, you've definitely shown a lot of growth with all of your solo recordings over the years. This sounds so wonderful. Beautiful songwriting with a beautiful soul and a beautiful melody.
ReplyDeleteHow about something along the lines of "Gone With the Wind"?
"Woman in the Wild"... "Changing Faces"... "Rising"... Hmmm. I hope one of these inspires a name!
"Lost and Found"
ReplyDelete"Sonnet of a Fool"
ReplyDeleteIt is an awesome song Meg! :D
Chasing the Thief
ReplyDelete"Refugee." Thought of that when I first heard it.
ReplyDeleteThe pressures of being a phony
ReplyDelete"Lost"
ReplyDeleteSeems suiting... like you're trying to find your way through.

ReplyDeleteLovely song Meg!
ReplyDelete"Persona"
imperfect... slip away... missing piece...
ReplyDeletesorry wish I could help out more for ideas
Love it Meg! :)
ReplyDeleteHow about "Spirit's Disguise" or "Spirit Astray"? "Fate Thieves, Spirit Grieves"? Good luck!
I say "Fate Fell Short This Time" theme of the song seems like its talking about life not going the way you expected it to. Plus I'm a huge blink 182 fan so yeah. Love the song though
ReplyDelete"Somedays I'm a Mannequin" or "Stone Around My Ankle"
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty song!
"Changing Tides" or "LIfe Jackets and Love" hope you like them! Thought long and hard!
ReplyDeleteThe Fool's Deck or The Fool's Joke
ReplyDeleteOr "When Will She Show", "Where She Ran", and "With The Wind She Ran". :) Hope this helps. My personal favorite is Where She Ran
DeleteOkay My last one. "Softly Speaking" or "Speaking Softly". Now my brain is tired.
Delete'The Dip' !! Haha
ReplyDeleteFates Disguise
ReplyDeleteI ASKED MYSELF
ReplyDeleteThese are just suggestions so no judging. What about “Mirror Me” (or mirror), “Reflection”, “The Mask I wear” (or just Mask), “Searching”, “Higher”, “Ocean of Life”, “Merely Me”, “Show up”, “My Spirit”, or maybe “My Spirit”. I don’t really know, these may all suck, but I hope they help. I love this song and have been replaying it already.
ReplyDeleteI would call it "Rearview Mirror". For some reason, I got the image of a girl leaning against a dusty car at a crossroads in the middle of nowhere, just trying to decide who she wants to be next before she chooses a new road and embarks on her journey. Looking back before going forward, and all that.
ReplyDelete"Nameless" :)
ReplyDeleteOnly noting the lines: Change my name each night; Play a different character; Fool them every time; I'd fool them every time. And that I recently saw someone write "guise" rather than "guys" in their post, to which I would think more effort would be required to do so and not less. This coupled with the odd behavior, which may simply be the social media norm (I do hope not, as it makes looking "Through the Looking Glass" seem logical) made me consider (not think likely, but in the abnormal - now normal - perhaps the bizarre seems the most sensical) that there was more to the writing than a typo (probably wrong, the world just seems odd to me, and so do I ... being wrong these days). So noting those lines and an internal question that's been under consideration for a while (as nothing makes sense), and furthered by that typo ...
ReplyDelete"Miss You Guise (Guys), Never Needed You Guise, Leave Me Guise, I" (possed more as a question about the typo than anything else).
i feel this has something to do with "the voice" wave and you going separate ways. anyway, my suggestions would be "Reaching In" or "Where Did I Go?"
ReplyDeleteThe lyrics remind me a bit of an animated Miyazaki movie entitled "Spirited Away". It's one of my all time favorites, highly recommended if you haven't seen it yet! I think it would also be a fitting name for this lovely song.
ReplyDeleteI also like the word "runaway" and might go with a name like "She Ran", "Runaway, Suzy", "Spirit Runner", or "Show You Me". "Spirited Away" is definitely my favorite, though. Hope these help! : )
no face :D
DeleteHow about "Soulless Eyes" I also agree with Alice and think that "where the great wind blows" would be a great name for the song
ReplyDeleteWander Lust. :)
ReplyDeleteUmmm. Wish She'd Show? Alliterative. I kinda like As I Stand Here Now too, like it's you looking back on where you've been from where you are now.
ReplyDelete"Crossroads" Or perhaps just "Now"
ReplyDeleteYou sound great and can't wait to hear more!
Life Crashes
ReplyDeleteFooled you
"Find her way" "Look into my eyes" "For Now"
ReplyDelete"Spirited Away" reminds me of the movie.
ReplyDeletehigher.
ReplyDelete"young spirits"
ReplyDeleteor maybe "my foolish self"
In Disarray, Discord In Me, Through My Seeing Glass, On the Verge, Caricatures, Gypsy Woman, Impersonating Myself, Searching For You(Me, Myself, & I).
ReplyDelete"Gypsy Spirit" or "Wandering Soul"
ReplyDeleteThis is so good! I can't wait till your Khaki Scouts comes out with a record! ^.^
"Heard No More" the line about playing a different character and fooling them every time reminded me of the tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow speech from Macbeth. i dont know many shakespeare passages or anything but that speech always stuck out. love the song!
ReplyDeleteDrowning in the Wind
ReplyDelete"Chasing and Searching"
ReplyDeleteHow about: "Who Am I Today" or "Way Back to the Front" or "One-Way Mirror"?
ReplyDeleteTo me, this song means remembering how it felt in the distant past when everything you started with was new, fresh, and exciting. Oh, what you would give to experience that fire again! You want to recapture that naive feeling and think it would propel you again like it did once.
You know that you can't fool yourself, because you can't go back. But you remember how it felt and you try anyway; searching for a new direction guided by what you were before.
Meg, you got me thinking again. How about: "Way Back to Now"
DeleteLady, Find My Alias
ReplyDelete"under anyway" It's a piece that stood out to me, the trying and the opportunity to do it anyways. It's gorgeous. I'm so excited to continue to be a fan of your art in so many ways.
ReplyDelete"Stages 4 & 5"
ReplyDeleteIn the five stages of grief/loss, stage 4 is depression and stage 5 is acceptance.
Throughout most of the song, the person mourns the loss of her past self. However, it seems as if in the last few lines ('but I go under anyway', 'that'll last me for a while', 'wouldn't change a thing'), she comes to reluctantly accept this loss.
"Spirit Of Change"
ReplyDeleteAnother great song,Meg. This song and the last put me in a very tranquil mood--in a good way!
:D
"Say Goodbye to Yesterday"
ReplyDeleteOr possibly, "Time and Tide"
"personalities"
ReplyDelete"dead as dillinger"
or even
"The worst mistake that you can make is to think you're alive when really you're asleep in life's waiting room." (yes, the whole quote)
"GIRL ON THE ROAD"!!!....... From the self-titled album" Girl on the Road".
ReplyDelete"The Old Adventure"
ReplyDelete"Another me"
"Sunken Sea"
"Where did that woman go"
"Another me in the sunken sea"?
Idk i just want some chandler swag.
I know this isn't what you were looking for but I have some ideas for the song. The guitar has a very good rhythm but it seems to get stagnant after a while. I would mix it up and add more of a percussive beat (sixteenth, eighth-stressed, mute, eighth-stressed, etc) either externally or with the guitar itself with some accents or something during the chorus.
Take it or leave it I think you're "good people" and think your awesome for really paying attention to your fans online.-Aston
"Spirit"
ReplyDeleteI definitely think it should be called 'The Dip.'
ReplyDeletePersonally, I feel that there is a time when you're in the 'Dip' when you feel lost. You're at a lost of inspiration, a lost of motivation. You're trying to regain and find your 'Spirit' that you initially had. On the process of trying to find your spirit, you become even more unmotivated. You try to past the time in hope to regain what was once lost in the dip.
Hmmm. . . Beautiful song i'm thinking maybe
ReplyDeleteSearching for the higher me or where the great wind blows or drowning in the travels of life
Hope I helped :D
"the vagabond"
ReplyDelete"gypsy song"
"the odyssey"
"lost souls"
ReplyDeleteor "lost spirits"
Delete"Searching" or "Searching for Her"
ReplyDelete"Without Regrets I Go"
ReplyDeletethis song is really deep. I think the words are sort of deceiving. No matter what she does or where she goes she has her music(words/guitar). The introspection she does through music helps her to understand her choices.
"The Great Perhaps"
ReplyDeleteA great perhaps is when you look back on your life and realize that everything that you've done, whether good or bad, has directed you into your current self. If you changed small this's or that's, your life at this very moment may have been completely different. Thinking about how it could've been different is the
"perhaps." To me, the song is about trying to find who you used to be from who you are. The Great Perhaps is more about the realization that everything you are is the product of all of those past experiences, and though you may think back on "what ifs", you're still happy with who you now are.
"Flight to Neverland" or "Lost in Neverland"
ReplyDeleteIN THE TIME-"BEING" I thought of this title as a little play on words of sort as I listed to the song first, then read the lyrics while listening to the song then read the lyrics alone and listened to the song again. In the time-"being" popped into my head because it could be TIME-BEING,BEING IN THE TIME of every moment and aspect of the song. The song is great because I was able to put myself in it as the PERSON SINGING it and relating to all I imparted here in my thoughts while doing all of this,I was IN THE TIME-"BEING" both the singer and the song.
ReplyDeleteMasks and Mornings
ReplyDeleteLife Crashes in Waves
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about "Escape" or "Incognito" because I this song meant to me like a woman who wanted to be anything other than herself, escaping from her past, and taking chances with a completely different perspective to life.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great song Meg! :)
The title should be "Spirit Back".
ReplyDeleteIt's a lyric from the song that stands out to me.
Whatever you do decide to name this song, I love it. :)
indestructible
ReplyDelete"Dandelion Wish"
ReplyDeleteShe ran so far, so wide, to where the great wind blows -> love this line! :)
